Peg board

Client Need
A wooden wall board was needed so that students with physical disabilities could easily access and manipulate the pieces while working on therapy goals. The client wanted the board to be colourful, measure 50 × 70 cm, and use pool noodles to allow students to move the pieces around the board.
What Was Built
Our volunteer used a plywood panel to meet the requested dimensions and mounted 36 pegs on the board. The volunteer used three different coloured pool noodles and cut them into 4 cm pieces to fit over the pegs. He ensured that the pegs provided little friction so that the children could easily move the foam noodle pieces onto and around the pegs. The board was then mounted on a wall so that students could easily access it.
How It Helped
Students were able to interact and play with the board throughout the day. It allowed them to engage in an activity, work on a variety of goals, and use a robust piece of equipment that is not commercially available.
